Of course, you want to take into account the formality of the bride and groom, if they are getting married in jeans, obviously, you can dress "down" a bit more.
If you are invited to a bridal shower, you will want something that is feminine and simple, such as cashmere or silk. Of course, it will depend on the season the bridal shower is being held, obviously, if it is in the middle of summer, you would not want to wear cashmere, but the silk would work nicely. In addition cotton never goes out of style, so a nice floral cotton dress would work very well in the spring or summer months. If you are not the type that loves dresses or skirts, you can definitely wear some dressy pants along with a silk blouse and pumps, which would look stunning for the event.
If you are going on a first date, keep the outfit stylish and semi-reserved. You do not want to look sleazy on a first date, so keep it tasteful a dress in materials that fit the season you are having your first date. In addition, if you are going to a fancy restaurant, you will want to dress for that, however, a casual restaurant will require a more casual attire.
